About Stats for Scholars

Our Mission

Stats for Scholars exists to demystify statistics for people who do research but did not train as statisticians. If you have ever stared at your data and wondered which test do I even run?, this site is for you.

We believe that understanding statistics should not require a math degree. Every tutorial on this site is written in plain language, with real research scenarios, so you can focus on answering your research questions instead of decoding textbook jargon.

Who This Site Is For

  • Graduate students working on a thesis or dissertation
  • Early-career researchers running their first studies
  • Clinicians and practitioners who need to read or conduct research but lack formal statistics training
  • Anyone who wants a clear, practical introduction to the statistical methods used in social science, health science, and education research

Stats for Scholars and Subthesis

Stats for Scholars is the teaching companion to Subthesis. Think of it this way: this site teaches the concepts, and Subthesis provides the calculators. When you finish reading a tutorial here, you can head over to Subthesis to run your effect size, power analysis, sample size, or other statistical calculations for free.

Together, the two sites give you a complete workflow: learn what a test does, decide whether it fits your data, and then compute your results.

Sister Sites

Stats for Scholars is part of a small family of resources built for graduate students and researchers:

  • Study Healthcare Theory — Healthcare Theory & Research Course. A structured course covering the theoretical frameworks used in health sciences research.
  • The Complete Grant Architect — Practical guidance on writing competitive grant proposals, from specific aims through budget justification.

Created By

Stats for Scholars was created by Angel Reyes to address a gap he saw firsthand: researchers who were smart, motivated, and capable, but who struggled with statistics because no one had explained it to them in a way that connected to their actual work.

Important Disclaimer

Stats for Scholars is a free educational resource. It is not a substitute for working with a qualified methodology advisor, statistician, or dissertation committee. The tutorials, guides, and calculator estimates on this site are designed to support your learning, not replace professional statistical consulting. Always verify important analyses with your advisor or a statistician before making decisions based on your results.
